Here are some of the most commonly asked questions.
If you have a question concerning tanning that you do not see listed here,
please email us with it and we will do our best to answer you as quickly as possible.
Q: How does the tanning process work?
A: Your body needs three things in order to build a tan: UVB, UVA and Oxygen. UVB starts the tanning process by stimulating the tanning cells (melanocytes) to produce melanosomes, which contain melanin (pigment). UVA darkens the melanin that has been produced, but before that can happen, melanin needs a certain amount of oxygen to facilitate the work that UVA performs. Oxygen comes from blood vessels beneath the skin and outside the skin. Oxygen comes from the bloodstream in the initial stages of tanning and helps a person to tan. Without oxygen, tanning does not occur. Professional tanning lotions can optimize the tanning process due to the fact that they contain nutrients for your tanning cells. A single tanning session can potentially take anywhere from three to ten days to fully mature. This is called DPD or Delayed pigment Darkening. Because it takes 24 to 48hrs for your actual color to show up after being in a tanning unit your tanning consultant will request that a new client wait 48hrs in between tanning till they reach their maximum goal of 20 minutes in a standard bed. Some states are regulated and YOUR SALON will enforce the 24 hour rule-NO TANNING AGAIN UNTIL 24 HOURS TO THE MINUTE..... FOR YOUR BENEFIT!
Q: Why can I not use an outdoor (store bought) lotion?
A: First of all, outdoor (store bought) lotions ruin tanning acrylic. These products cannot be cleaned off the acrylic and degrade the acrylic itself. Results being-UV light cannot pass through the acrylic to the tanner as well as it used to. During the tanning process your body is losing moisture. This is natural and will take place whether you tan indoors or out. Professional tanning products include high quality moisturizers that your skin needs to replenish what was lost. Professional indoor product manufacturers know exactly the kinds, quality and amount of moisturizers to put into their products. Everyone has a natural tanning limitation and lacks the nutrients skin needs in order to achieve its maximum tanning potential. So ask yourself?...What kind of tan are you hoping to achieve? If you want a cheap tan, go to the discount store, get a discount lotion, step outdoors and get a discount tan. But if you want a professional result, this is the place to come. Not only do we use professional equipment, the tanning products we carry give you professional results.
Q: Why isn't closing my eyes good enough?
A: "YOU HAVE BEAUTIFUL EYES, WHY DAMAGE THEM"
Take this test.....Run your hand across your eyes while they are closed. Did you notice a shadow go by. If you did, that is showing you that the available lighting is still getting through your eyelids and reaching the back of your eyes. Sunglasses, cotton balls, loose change, closing your eyes, anything other than special eyewear that meets federal requirements will be putting you at risk for serious injury to your eyes. Think of the long term....left unprotected when tanning you are risking painful corneal eye burns, cataracts, night and color blindness. Because some of these conditions take years to develop you might not realize the damage you are causing your eyes. Eyelids DO NOT stop invisible rays of UV light from penetrating through to your eyes.
Q: Why does a tan disappear?
A: The tanning process takes place in the epidermic (top layer of the skin). The epidermis replaces itself approximately once a month when a person is younger and up to about a month and a half who are little older. Tans gradually begin to fade as the skin sheds.
